CHECKMATE HARDCORE, Zutphen style

Two-thousand-and-one: Checkmate started out as a project. Mattis (vocals), Thomas (guitar) and Bas (drums), all hailing from the Zupthen area, started writing some songs, but Bas moved to another city and the band seized to exist. After a year Maarten (drums) and Jeffrey (bass) joined the club. The result: two demos (First Kings Down, Six Step Strike) and quite a few liveshows. But Checkmate had to find a new bass player after Jeffrey decided to leave the band. Luckily they walked into Rob, who was happy to lend his bass skills to the band. With this line-up, the new cd called The Grand Move was recorded February 2006 at Studio Metro(click) and produced by Michiel Toenink.; it is the new beginning for Checkmate. Finally Joel joined the band as second guitar player. Gaining energy and experience with every show, Checkmate is back on track. Check us out. Mosh it up.
